Charleston, W.V. – The West Virginia School Service Personnel Association (WVSSPA) will celebrate 50 years and a proclamation by the Office of the Governor declaring Friday, September 25, 2015, as West Virginia School Service Personnel Day.
“School service personnel are dedicated, professional, well-trained, caring and compassionate individuals who have chosen a path to serve West Virginia students. The jobs that they do bring joy and satisfaction in knowing they have an impact on the lives of our most precious commodity - our children,” WVSSPA Executive Director Joe White.
School service personnel play an important role in the education system by serving meals, transporting children safely to and from school, assisting teachers in the classroom, maintaining clean buildings and grounds and providing essential administrative services. To honor school service members, the WVSSPA distributed blue buttons to all members of the association to wear on West Virginia School Service Personnel Day. Local association presidents will celebrate at the annual WVSSPA Fall President’s Conference held at The Resort at Glade Springs on September 25-26, 2015.
The WVSSPA is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to create a deeper sense and knowledge of the importance of a good educational system for West Virginia, and to advance the interest and welfare of service employees. Affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the AFL-CIO, the WVSSPA is an 8,000-plus member strong union organization dedicated to school service personnel. The WVSSPA is a democratic organization comprised of members who actively participate in developing programs and policy.
